Delhi Government Plans To Construct 5,300 Homes For Slum DwellersDelhi Government Plans To Construct

In order to rehabilitate slum dwellers, Delhi government has initiated the construction of 5,310 homes in five areas. It is a wonderful step by the government towards providing homes for the homeless. As known to all, the slum areas do not provide basic civic amenities. Keeping a note of this, the entire process of proposals, planning, designing and approvals has been steadfast to ensure timely development. This has rought a smile on the face of the slum dwellers, who have been dreaming to have better homes and living conditions for them.

Indeed, the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) will be taking the responsibility of improvising the lifestyle of slum areas. And in this regard, the DUSIB has issued tenders that tend to invite construction companies to take-up the construction work. Certainly speaking, the construction work includes developing residential towers each with 12 to 18 floors as per requirement. These towers will be constructed in the areas of Lajpat Nagar, Karol Bagh, Bhalsawa, and Sangam Park. The sole purpose of making such homes is to help slum dwellers in having clean living conditions. Of course, the project of constructing 5,310 homes is intended to accommodate around 25000 slum dwellers.

Clearing the light on the matter further, Shurbur Singh (CEO of DUSIB) said that the construction of houses for slum dwellers is one of the biggest housing projects planned by the board. He also said that an estimated of more than 30 lakh people stay in slum areas. Stating more details on the areas proposed by the board for developing the houses, they will be built in pocket F of Bhalsawa, Kasturba Niketan in Lajpat Nagar IV, around railway line in Sangam Park, and Dev Nagar in Karol Bagh. Indeed, these sites are positioned within 5 kms of the existing slum area. The best thing about the project is that it tends to give better living condition to the lesser privileged people.

This step by the Delhi government is considered excellent for slum dwellers and gives them hope of having proper civic amenities. Of course, it would add to the vote bank of AAP Party that manages the state government of Delhi. And also, Kejriwal has given green signal to the development process. After all, it is highly beneficial for slum dwellers as they will be leaving tacky and sticking environs for a better standard.
